I was contacted by The Deerstalkers of Monterey Bay, a literary society specializing in Sherlock Holmes mysteries. The objective was to create a logo for the group, with suggested uses being a lapel pin and a letterhead. It was suggested that the design incorporate a sea otter, a quintessential species of Monterey Bay. Additionally, if Holmes was a part of the design, he could be depicted as a seal.
